What is an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan?
An EHC Plan looks at all the needs that a child or young person has within education, health and care. Professionals and the family together consider what outcomes they would like to see for the child or young person. This plan identifies what is needed to achieve those outcomes. The Children and Families Act 2014 made EHC plans statutory from 1 September 2014.
EHC Plans have the same legal status as Statements of SEN and will cover the age range 0 to 25. Every EHC plan is personalised to meet the needs and outcomes for each child or young person. The timescales for assessment and completion of an EHC Plan is a maximum of 20 weeks.
Updated EHC Plan Template
As part of Nottinghamshire’s SEND Improvement Plan, the SEND Accountability Board requested that the Council's EHCP template was reviewed to make it more user friendly and to give greater consideration to the Governments Preparing for Adulthood agenda (PFA). This work has now been completed and you can view the new templates for 0-13 year olds and 14-25 year olds under 'downloads'. All new agreed EHCP’s from 4th November 2019 will be drafted using the new EHC Template. Additionally the progress to transfer existing EHCP’s onto the new template will begin as part of an agreed transfer plan.
