Guidance on Infection Prevention and Control in ASC
Please note that the government guidance on infection prevention and control in adult social care was updated on 3 May 2022: COVID-19 supplement to the infection prevention and control resource for adult social care. There is a useful summary of changes in the link above.
Updates include:
- Clarification that sessional use of masks applies to communal care settings only;
- Clarification that if an individual takes a lateral flow test due to developing symptoms, and the result of this lateral flow test is positive, they do not need to take another lateral flow test 48 hours later;
- Clarification that residents should always be able to receive one visitor inside the care home at a time during outbreaks or isolation;
- Updates to the list of aerosol-generating procedures (AGPs), and guidance on PPE usage during AGPs;
- Updates to care homes visiting guidance to clarify that all visitors are encouraged to wear a face covering, not just those providing personal care;
- Updates to the list of Covid-19 symptoms, and additional guidance on identifying symptoms in frail elderly people.
Please be reminded to regularly check the relevant guidance for your setting to ensure that your staff and visitors are following it correctly.
